so, earlier on today i got ambushed by a woman from a nail salon, who insisted on sticking a sort of weird tacky diamante encrusted decal on one of my nails and then covering it with clear nail polish. i’ve never gotten a free sample from a nail salon before, it was very strange.

Then I get home and Jacinta had posted this song by him. And now Kevy B tweets about him! This Jon Brion dude is everywhere I turn today. It must mean something.

Nothing ever happened (I’ll be here all week). But it was a case of general Coxian douchebaggery, by which I am endlessly amused. From the Deerhunter blog:

“I always wanted to start a feud with Kevin Barnes from of Montreal. This started with the now-infamous dis song he wrote about my good friend / sometimes “girlfriend” Eva (“Bunny Aint No Kind of Rider”) My plan was to beat him up or at least shank him on stage. I saw him everywhere over the course of the weekend and kind of snarled at him from across the catering table. He was walking around in the middle of the day wearing blue glitter eyemakeup and asspants. Long story short: we were driving away at the end of the night sunday, and i saw him being interviewed by the pitchfork dudes on video. I ran up and grabbed the mic (thinking i was going to humiliate him on a small level, and look all badass) and asked him “Why are you such a pretentious fucktard?” and he looks at me and says really sadly “Because I havent figured it out yet…”

I walked away feeling like such a fucking asshole. I got served. I told the guys in the van to hold up and ran back over to him after he was interviewed and apologized and explained my feudconcept. He was really cool and nice. Then he came and hung out with us for the rest of the night.”

Then there’s this super cheesy group hug photo that follows. Music needs more faux-feuds.

You see, for my money, Benny Goodman’s Sing, Sing, Sing wipes the floor with Helter Skelter, and yet it’s still The Beatles who are credited with unleashing/unhinging popular music.

I used to drop this (the original, seven-plus-minutes version) while DJing; at first everyone would tolerate it - “Hey, grandpa’s on the decks!” - but by the time that final breakdown explodes out of the speakers, they lose their minds.

oh god, i played this for a band competition in stage band one time. we had to play it at like, half speed most of the time because our drummer couldn’t keep up with the rest of the band, and the first trombone bit is RIDICULOUS for someone who was fairly lackadasical about their practicing, ie me.

Only in Melbourne could we have a public holiday for a horse race.
