More Plus-Size Fashion Complaints

brofisting:

Here’s the deal, folks. I am both picky and fickle. What I like changes weekly, and my entire outlook on clothing gets a regular overhaul at least once a year thanks to what I suspect to be a somewhat mild case of seasonal affective disorder.

I am also basically a magpie. I like shiny things.

“Plus-size” fashion caters to none of these whims. Some days, I honestly cannot tell whether I am more pissed off about not being able to find clothes or how shoddy the business plans of these companies are! Seriously, I get all indignant about how they’re wasting valuable money-making opportunities. It’s just an affront! To business practices! And also decency, but whatever, you guys. There are plenty of money-grubbing companies who could be out there, making money off us decent-outfit-starved fat people! That says something serious about the level of distaste for people above a size 10, I think, that they will not make us clothes even to make money.

On a less practical note, it just wears you down, you know? It’s quite a feeling, walking into a store and knowing, not even having to check, that nothing in it fits you. And then leaving the store, and knowing that every single other store in walking distance also lacks clothing that will fit you. It sucks! And it’s disheartening! And it’s rude! It doesn’t matter that the most determined find their way around these obstacles by altering clothing and trying on one million meant-to-be-loose items (though it says something amazing about their dedication to kicking ass and taking names!), what matters is that a hell of a lot of people who look at magazines and watch movies and swoon over dresses are all getting this message that beauty isn’t made for them. And that all the clothing designers and marketers and sellers are nodding along with them, agreeing: of course beauty isn’t made for you! It’s one of the many punishments you get for being fat.

THIS THIS ALL OF THIS OKAY. I am currently having a hell of a time at the moment trying to find jeans, because I basically have 2 pairs that fit me well, and I wear jeans almost every day, so swapping them out is getting a bit old, but ugh seems ASOS have changed the sizing on their Curve jeans, because THEY NO LONGER FIT ME. I had to return the last pair I ordered, and they were the same size as my purple pair, which still fit, so idek. I’ve looked so many places, and yet somehow no one makes plain, fitted denim jeans without butt embellishments in my size anymore! SO MAAADDDD.
